Casa D'Ambra Ischia Blanco 2015
Our featured wine is a beautiful wine from a stunning place, Casa D'Ambra Bianco from Ischia, an Italian island off of the coast of Naples.
Winemakers on Ischia (eé-skee-
ah) have been given the nickname "Crazy Angels" for their dedication to pursuing viticulture amid challenging factors both geographical and socio- economic. The D'Ambra Family can trace their wine making lineage back to 1888 when Francesco D'Ambra started producing wines on the island. The wines have always been successful in the local Neapolitan market and we are fortunate today that we can get them in the US.
The Ischia Bianco is unique and has an individual expression, produced from the indigenous varieties Biancolella and Forastera. The first thing you notice about this wine is how intensely aromatic it is, upon pouring beautiful floral aromas leap out of the glass. There is a surprising fullness on the palate with notes of firm nectarine and orange fruits followed by a dry mineral finish that recalls aspects of the open sea. This profile makes it a perfect partner for rich seafood that has some texture, such as crab, lobster, and shellfish.
